Hi Nihaya - it's george... If you want to use the boxes.. you have to put a "include page div close" when you want it to end.. then to get it the size you want.. you have to delet the spaces.. between the text and the "include box" object. I just had a look at your page.. the reason I used the box for the caption is that it was separate information/ style from the video caption. Now that you have 3 boxes.. .. the caption box doesnt looks special... I think. However, I'm glad you are experimenting with the boxes. I'm gonna change it a little... but you can experiment some more with it if you want.

HI - George here.. the definition of voicemail from wikipedia -
I guess I meant voice mail in terms of any kind of "stored" voice message that can be retrieved and listened to at a later date... including that function on Skype... Skype is not just synchronous... but also asynchronous (or has the potential to be ) , although I don't know how many people use it like that.. I have had a few voice mails on skype... and I thought they were pretty weird... actually i didn't hear it until a month later so you..... have to be there.. checking it regularly .. like email I suppose. You can also record a short message in MSN messenger... and then send it...not synchronous exactly.. actually all these mediums are becoming increasingly similar I think. Text used to be just asynchronous (writing letters) - then it became synchronous... with chat. On the other hand, we mostly think of voice as being synchronous. but it doesnt have to be.. take podcasts etc. I think its true that with CMC we often see new modes emerge, that shift the established norms of communication.

Well done everyone! Wow! I love our site. Its so organized and looks fantastic. I don't think i can access the home page to do my summary. I am going to try it now but doubt that I can access it. If i cant do it then I will leave my summary here for anyone to do it for me on the home page next to my email page. I love your signature George. Looks really nice and authentic. Well done. By the way, whenever I download my coversheets from student connect i can never open them to write them or save them as word document. Any suggestions??!!! Hi guys... before writing the conclusion, I am going through the whole wiki, taking notes, doing a bit of editing ( just cutting out repetition, wordiness etc). I have been in your pages tightening and tweaking a few things...if you don’t like it, no prob, just check your history and revert back. Note, I have taken out the personal pronouns, ‘I have noticed’, ‘my school’ etc..
I have finally managed to edit the overview page through Firefox( as George suggested). The need for a definition of asynchronous/synchronous was queried... I've put it in as I'm not sure where we left this... do we want it? Anyway, if we do, this text addition makes the page looks unbalanced, but I don't want to fiddle... will leave that to Tony or George.
Why is Tony's wiki page out of alignment? I notice that the edit page is all aligned... (note, it was out of whack before I got there...made sure I checked that!)
Reference.. for George’s mobile page...I’ve found and put in a link for the Japan cell phone story- Tony can you check if you’re happy with how I put it in the bibliography? George, I definitely think the mobile phone page should be left in... I’ve slashed it up a bit though... ok?
I need to take a break though now... Am up to no.7 Virtual worlds... and freely admit I have been completely sidetracked (Firefox offers me much faster access). George... this really is such an exciting addition to the wiki, well done.

HI Nihaya.. its george... I saw your problems... I reverted your page to an earlier version.. I hope this is what you wanted... yes.. editing in wikispaces is sometimes very frustrating.. i suggest you do it all in microsoft word first... then copy to wikispace.. might be less frustrating for you... but when you copy it back to wikispace, it helps if you put it in "wordpad" first.. then from wordpad into wikispaces... this helps to remove formatting that makes the page confused....does this make sense?... good luck ...

I think if I ever want students to use this site it should be easy to Navigate to and should still appear on the left menu. but I think last is prolly better. what do you think. anything coming after the references and further resources would be outside the word limit? is that correct. ??

cheers..George..lll Oh I say the title.. yeah.. now you know how time consuming doing the formatting really is. Its a nightmare.. nothing works and it suddently you've got two images overlapping eachother. It has to do with the magnification function used in the text edit window. If you hit the return key it inserts a new line, but the line is also a larger percent magnification, so ends up overlapping the first text. Well it took me a while to get it fixed. Even harder was removing the annoying little bars that appear in table of contents . I have ditched the right aligned table of contents.. as way too messy. but good on a few of the pages. I like them just horizontal under the heading. What do you think? but only use heading 1 if you want your text to appear in the table of contents. Also, dont make it "heading one" until all the other work on your text is done. This avoids problems with weird stuff appearing in the TABLE OF CONTENTS>

Also you'll see a number of "include page" blocks if you are editing the pages, Please leave these. They are the black background, the yellow boxes, and the fact that when you click on a link it opens automatically in a new window.

Friday - Fiona. Hi all, I have emailed everyone some notes I made while going through the wiki, suggestions/comments re edits/changes. Could you look at these?
Do you want me to do the conclusion? No problem, but can you please throw in anything you'd like to include on that page - just point form.
I'll check out firefox, thanks George, I should have thought of that... Oh George, I fiddled with the front page...is the title change ok? I can't get a damn space between the lines though. Also, I cut the explanation sentences from the modes of communication...I thought it was too wordy and belonged in the section itself...is that ok? Can be changed back of course.
Looking again, I don't think the language lab belongs before the conclusion..... I suggest that our reflection page should be separate and come after the conclusion. Reflection can also include our 'potential' page with all the exciting stuff we have discovered and want a record of, advantages being that it then is 1. not included in word limit 2. doesn't detract from central issue 3. We can all have this stuff here in one place for us all to use and refer to in the future (Tony, the wiki doesn't disappear does it?)
I sent you copies of the emails I've exchanged with Muriel.re word limit/reflections.
How about we do a short group reflection = discovered so much exciting stuff, how we organised ourselves/meetings etc, and then a short individual reflection too.?

We have 2 more Tuesday meetings 27/5, 3/6 before due date ( Monday 9th June). Shall we plan a Sunday night final meeting.... ceremonial group submission!!! ????
It's probably time to be ruthless and cut...thowever, here is so much interesting stuff in the wiki that people may want to copy and save for their personal files - maybe do that now?? Tuesday 27, shall we go through as a group and (1).cut, cut, cut (2). Agree on overall appearance/format etc. (3). talk about outstanding issues.
This means we all need to finish our sites by next Tuesday 27th May ie in 4 days. This includes all references - Tony needs us to put all our references = full citation, at the bottom of our sections (it's not fair if he has to search for all the details and create hotlinks). There will probably be a few last minute things e.g. I plan to add a transcript of my students text chat, but that won't change the format as it will be a link.

Fiona here 23/5 - I can't format my text chat page - that intial paragraph is out of alignment and refuses to be edited - any ideas? My original document is well aligned, and if I copy the wiki doc back over to word it becomes aligned, so there is something on the actual page that is doing it. Also, I would like the background colour to tie in with others - can you do this george? Or is it easier to leave the final format til the end, so that the doc presents as reasonably uniform -

Fiona here Friday 23 - Thanks for sorting that overview page out george... I spent soem time reworking it, then lost the lot when I tried to save the changes - don't know why -VERY frustrating, so then I re did it in word and just created that new page as the overview page crashed every time I tried to edit it. Did you have that problem? By the way...there are a few more tweaks needed but that particular page CRASHES every time I click the edit button...what is going on here?

Nihaya , I am trying to fix my photo but my computer is very slow and i cannot do it. I saw that ,George, ur online and doing work. Its almost impossible for me to do any changes now as my net is really slow.. If u can put my photo with my students where my context is i will appreciate that. George - Hi, I've all but abandoned the yackpack project.... looks like their service is down. OH ... check out the new RSS feeds page I made. I've included a link to it in 10.references / further resources but you can also access it temporarily from the left pane menu, after message board. I guess I was thinking that pages below the double line could be deleted from the main interface eventually. This means they wouldn't appear there, but would still be part of our site. For example, leavign the message board would be a great example of the way we worked together... we could put a link to it in the reflection page, then delete it from the main navigation window (left pane). RSS mountain is a good place to search for RSS feeds

...oh and sorry Tony... I messed up your page again.. tried three times to put a short text in there... in white, in black etc etc.. but each time it rendered in black and white striped sections.. sorry.. you can revert to last good version if you need to.

HI George Here hi nihaya - first you need to be more specific. Do you mean hyperlinks to other pages in this site, hyperlinks to pages on other sites, or hyperlinks to sections of your own page. If its hyperlinks to other pages on this site, you need to highlight the text you want as your link, then click on the "add hyperlinkJ" box.... it looks like a little chain.... to the left of the add picture box on the editor control bar. If you want to link to other pages outside this site, you just have to copy and paste the www. address into your page... it will automatically be highlighted. If you want to make a link to a section on your own page, it is more difficult. find one of my pages where I did it , and look at the text editor to find the code .... or you can do a search in google "wikitext how to create anchors". Let me know how it goes...

I think I know what you want now.. you have to highlight the text.... then click on the link button up the top...icon with world and a chain link.. then click on link to EXTERNAL... and copy and paste the URL for that external site in the box.. think that should do it

Hi - I reverted to 1 contributors page... sorry if I trashed anyones work... tony I noticed you made some changes to it later than that... but the borders around the photos were pretty weird with the name of the photo ref under it.. also my powerpoint video was gone... dont know why... does anyone think it shouldnt be there?

also. could someone else please test the yack packs on the language lab page.. they were working fine yesterday .. but today my computer cant activate them... dont know if its my computer or not.... if you load the language lab page... and also load the home page so you have both pages open... then click and hold yackpack (whole site communications), then you should be able to hear yourself talking... can someone else check it please with a fast connection

I have a lot of words on my page and i wil be deleting more in the coming days, I have a problem, we seem to have used all the allowable usage although its 12 g. I am not sure how to write this, my access now is v limited. I will try to may be call the company and pay for another month. By the way. I have an urgent meeting on Tuesday at 8 pm and am not sure what time i wil be back. SO from school to that appointment back to ours. I will do the best i can to be here. I need help with putting hyper links. My son was going to help me but he got frustrated when the internet slowed down. I cannto beloieve we used all of that. i think may be because Anas, my son made it wirless this month and may be some people are usiing it. Saturday 17th.. Hi again... I just made the change... I think its better... but when you create new pages... they will not automatically appear in the menu anymore. instead.. you should go to Manage space and "list pages" ... if you want your page to appear in the main menu, you can click on "edit navigation" on the bottom left... then create a hyperlink to the page. I am working on the language lab concept right now ... its a lot of fun using the yackpacks.

ps... I added another user to this page... username StudentXXX password fukui123 its important to keep upercase lowercase... If you want to invite a friend or student to the site... they can use that password to get in.... but they dont have manage space rights..

Saturday 17th.. Hi everyone. I have found a way to stop our new pages coming up automatically on the left hand side... this means that we can all create as many pages as we want, without spoiling the appearance of the main menu... if you want to list and view all pages therefore, you should go to "manage space" and click on "list pages"... The left menu might be blank for a while as I set it up.

Friday 16th.. Hi everyone . Yes Nihaya.. that can be so annoying when you lose everything. I have been creating new pages to work on .. then copying them back to the main page later... thats one way to do it. Or you can use that 'revert' function as you said...

I have put some tags (yackpack) at the bottom of each page. It will tell you how many people are on this site. If you click and hold... you can speak ... and anyone who is currently using the site will hear you.

AM not sure if u r familiar with tracing back stuff on ur pages which u lost. I just did that with my email page. I have lost everything so i went back to manage space and looked at the history under the page lists or something. looked under changes and compared it with todays and i copied the page from the 11 of May and at least i got somethings back. SO if u r disparate like me do that if u r faced with a similar problem.

Hi everyone - HI Fiona.. no worries.. thats what I:ve done. some other things... Nihaya... I:ve deleted your second Email and TESOL page.. and copied everything back to 3.Email. You will find everything there... but it is really a lot of text.. and videos too.. you shouldnt have much trouble deleting the videos you dont want to keep .. .. you just have to select it and delete.... or keep them if you want... my opinion is that most of them are irrelevant.

.. Tony I had a look at your page and it looked good... until I tried to add a widgit and all the black went into stripes etc etc.. Im sure you know what i mean .. the black table is like black ice... just keeps getting harder and harder to work with.. I was thinking it might be a good idea to just have black on the front pages.. and then links going down past the 'one black cell from hell' into white space... where we can construct much more easily. I have tried to set this up for everyone on the 2. overview of issue page. I think the trick will be to put in headings that link to white space and easier to use formatting. BTW I tried to set up the page again... on 'test page' ... take a look.. the photo stretched in the cell is opening it up to width.. but then the text flow is weird... and on certain puters goes outside the area... so you 'd have to put in your own returns.... strange I know

Although I:ve been pretty active in constructing this site so far, please don't let this opportunity go by without getting the most out of it for yourselves. As for me, I dont care about marks, just about how much I can get out of this for my own benefit. Since I want to set up an online learning environment in the future... setting up this space is great for me.... but I think we all need to have a go at it...

It enables a private chat with an educator. I am IMagining a class of say approx 16 students in groups of 4... the walkie talkie windows should be interesting .. dont know if theyll work or not

Listen, don't get freaked out by that other site. I did initially too. However they have too much -way too much. Also, remember - our stakeholder is not Muriel. We need our issue/proposal/implications -all in 3000 words. 'Succinct' will be our success. Links of course, for the extra info and those tricky questions from the 'audience' - and a barrage of references!

it looks like a better idea if we go the other way around with this page.. I mean most recent posts up the top rather than the bottom - I can confirm for tuesday night at the same time.. its good for me

some things I have found out..

if you want to include table of contents in the page... you have to insert






























































































at the top of the page... this will insert a table of contents at the right hand side of the pages.. and their will be links to anything on the page that is a *heading* . For this reason, I suggest that we dont use any headings until later... since re-formatting is a headache as I:ve found. Just put in the plain text ... unless you want it in the table of contents.

This wat i wrote to Tony

Hi Tony

we have discussed few things yesterday

We looked at the mind map which Fiona included under her name (I think) on the wiki .

Mind map: I couldnt look up the site as I was not able to get a confirmation email on my registration. However, Goerge did and he was able to navigate the site. You can ask them about it as am not sure how it works.

We talked about any references that we need to include on our wiki for the assignment. By the way, Foina has put some good ones under her name. So whenever you check it you will find valuable sites.

We discussed that we are in week 10 and we need to submit a draft next week to Muriel (at least Fiona and I read about it somewhere).

We have 4 weeks to go and we are doing fine with our assignment. Fiona talked about the criteria and we have covered every single one.

We have thought of meeting again on Friday (it was my idea so we dont have to do it on Tuesdays). This time we will only chat as we can do other things as well while we are online. Its going to be Friday at 9 pm, my time and yours.

Last note, Fiona, George and I wish that you will soon get well Tony.

The references I put under 'text chat' are specific to that topic. However, if you look at the Site Project Plans, I have included a few interesting electronic journal sites for general interest.
Not sure that we are doing fine yet. We need to pull this together a bit more quickly. Due date is only 3 weeks away. I will write up my text chat section over the next week. How is everyone else progressing with this?

Let’s clear up next meeting date? Have to say, Mon Tues or Thurs is best for me. What about everyone else? Can we stick with Tuesday?
